Each year, the United Nations World Tourism Organization publishes the top of the most visited countries in the world. Here is the top 10 Most Visited Countries, acording to UN WTO for 2013.
La France is the leader in attracting tourists. Last year alone over 83 million people have visited the land of fashion, wine, love and romance. France has got to offer a lot: mountains and rivieras, museums and river cruises, theatres and chateaux, coffee and baguettes. Charming Paris attracts mostly tourists from both Americas and Asia, due to the vast amount of things to do and to see, whereas the countryside (Provence, Normandy, Brittany, Bordeaux) is very popular for the neighbour EU countries, such as Germany, the UK, Italy, Spain.
2. The United States of America
Situated on the second place, after France, USA has attracted over 67 million tourists in 2013. Travellers from around the world come to see the famous cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas. Some are heading for the natural beauties America has got to offer: Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, various forests, resorts and camping sights.
China only started being popular after the Summer Olympic Games in 2008 in Beijing. Overall, last year's numbers show 57.6 million tourists have come to China. This is no wonder since the great amount of places China has got to offer. These include amazing cities such as Beijing and Hong Kong, historical places like the Forbidden City and The Great Wall of China. Also, numerous natural parts of the country, where travellers can enjoy monasteries, mountains, wildlife, villages and river valleys. Worth mentioning are the Chinese Traditional Medicine and shopping, which attract numerous tourists from around the world.
Most of the visitors who come to Spain are from the EU countries. The country is blessed with a long and beautiful coastline, offering sunshine and mild climate most of the days in the year. No wonder 56.7 million people have visited this country last year. Most of the cities are rich architectually and culturally: Barcellona, Madrid, Seville. Let alone the Spanish cuisine - it is so delicious! The islands in the Mediterranean and in the Atlantic attract young people looking for fun, best night life, amazing parties and care free holidays.
This country is so rich in touristic attractions. The cities alone like Milano, Venice, Florence and Rome are always busy with tourists, regardless in or out of season. The natural beauty of the country attracts people to places like Lake Como, Lake Garda, Amalfi Coast, Etna volcano. Italy offers such amazing sights from Ancient Rome buildings to modernly built houses and resorts along the coastline. Last year a total number of 46 million tourists came from Europe, Asia and Americas.
Situated on 2 continents, Asia and Europe, Turkey has been attracting visitors from ancient times. Nowadays, people come to enjoy the sunshine, to shop at the local bazaars, to visit historical places like the Blue Mosque and the Strait of Bosphorus in Istanbul and to treat themselves at great turkish saunas and massages. Last year, Turkey hosted 34 million people.
This country offers an eclectic mix of sights: from fairy tale landscapes to reminders of last century's history. Berlin, the capital of Germany is the top destination for a city weekend break in Europe. The Bavarian capital - Munich is another top tourist city, famous mostly for the Oktoberfest held yeach year. Other attractions include the river Rhine and Romantic Road. Overall 30.4 tourists for Germany in 2013.
8. The United Kingdom
So unique and yet so different, each part of the UK - England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have to offer so much for the tourists. Loch Ness Lake up North of the country, the mysterious Stonehenge in the South, the Cliffs of Cornwall in the South West. London alone is a massive hub for tourists around the world. It's beauties include such sights as The Big Ben and the House of the Parliament, The Buckingham Palace, The British Museum, Trafalgar Square, The Tower of London and many others. All these have been visited by 29.3 million people last year.
9. Russian Federation
Russia is fastly becoming a popular destination, expecially for the wealthy, due to multiple upmarket restaurants and luxury shops. The most visited cities are Moscow and St. Petersburg, which are great examples of Russia's architecture, hostory and cultural life. 24.9 million people have visited this country last year.
Malaysia combines both the beauty of modern, fastly growing cities with beauty of nature. A great buddist religious spot, backpacking destination, eco travel and business destination, Malaysia has welcomed over 24.7 million tourists in 2013.
